Dutch-based Van Egmond Potgrond has acquired all shares of SIA Unguri, a leading Latvian producer of peat and peat blocks. With this acquisition, Van Egmond - a high-quality supplier of substrates and raw materials - has further strengthened its position. At the same time, Unguri has secured its future with a continued focus on offering first-class products. Ronnie Zomer, owner of Unguri for decades, will remain in charge of the company as CEO.
Unguri is one of the larger Latvian companies specializing in the extraction and processing of peat and peat products. The company manages a total area of approximately ±550 hectares of peatland, using modern mining and processing equipment. In total, Unguri employs almost 60 people, including both permanent staff and seasonal workers, and serves highly valued customers worldwide.
Since the Zomer family acquired the company in 1996 Unguri has grown into a leading supplier of peat and peat products under the management of Ronnie Zomer. A strong customer focus, combined with careful attention to employees and other stakeholders, has given the company a solid and respected position both nationally and in the international peat market.

The Van Egmond Group is also a family-owned company, founded in the Netherlands in the 1920s. Strategically located in the Port of Amsterdam, the production site has its own terminal. The company imports and processes bulk raw materials such as peat moss from suppliers like Unguri, as well as from its own peat fields in Estonia.
